“Shall we accept Good from God, but not trouble?” Job 2v10
Often I bump into many that just expect God to make everything that happens to them be good, to the point some have said if God did ‘that’ to me I don’t know if I could do this Christian thing anymore. To many of us keep the praise when things are going well and blame God when things are not so good, but Why? Can we not just learn to be like Job, and expect God to make some things in life testing and hard?
This past month or so, a few people I have known have left this scene of time, for some it has been a long illness that has taken their body to a place beyond repair, for others an instant change of health has caused their life to end, For others they are currently going through deep trials and very testing waters which don’t look promising, but I know God can make their world change in a second. For to long I have just expected God to give me the three score years and 10, so that I can enjoy retirement and long life, the fact is now I have had a reality check that has helped me realise that ‘this life thing is what is going on when I’m planning for the future’, its brought me to a few crossroads,
- Deciding to have a live today philosophy,
- to Live a Love that leaves an imprint of Jesus,
- to Spend more time with Amy, Ben & Maddie,
- to sort out any relational issues
- to involve God more in small decisions
…the list goes on, I’ve been challenged lately to ask myself what Legacy I want to leave behind me, ‘True’ has started in Church, simply its a resource to help those searching for God in deeper ways to explore Gods desire for their life and ministry, and to put feet on those desires.
True in its first week has caused me to stop everything, look at what’s going on and listen to God in the stillness. Rotten stuff happens to good and bad people, it happens to Christians, Muslims, Atheists, whatever people call themselves, God is no respecter of persons, but I’m learning quick that my total dependency needs to be found at the River of God, and in my Saviour Jesus Christ!When Rotten Stuff hits your life (because it hits us all) Here’s a few questions for you…
1.Will we Bless the Lord or curse Him?
2.Will we Acknowledge that God both Gives and takes away?
3.Will we sin with our Lips?
4.Will we try to see Gods Big picture of the storm when we are in the middle of it?
