Religious Excuses
Have You ever attended a meeting or gathering somewhere and the turn out, well its not what the person leading the meeting had maybe expected, or maybe you are the only one turns up. All of a sudden the famous verse ‘where two or three are gathered together in my name….’ is quoted and somehow that fixes the low turnout, but does it? Its what follows that normally concerns me, the importance of the meeting in reduced, the potential of it is disposed and all of a sudden the blame game starts as to why so few attended.
Never once in my bible to I see Jesus downsize a meeting when only one is there or 5,000. Jesus was just glad that they had come to see Him and wanted to Be blessed by his words and actions. As a cell coach sometimes I see cell leaders discouraged when there are only a few turn up for cell, often the busyness of life means people can’t make it, but I have come to know small numbers can really help develop people in their walk, the worrying thing for me is that sometimes I worry that those who depend so much on others to make a meeting ‘work’, how on earth do they get on in the closet when its just them and God? Lets not get caught in the numbers trap! If we focus on our relationship with God, everything else will fall into place!

haha true. i wish more meetings had only two or three there sometimes.
I totally agree, we can be so caught up in numbers! A friend who has taught me alot quite dislikes that vers being used on those instances, it is taking it out of context in order to try and make us feel better about being short on the ground. Rather the context of it was Matthew 18 which deals with confronting sin in the life of another believer, and it is Jesus affirming that when 2 or 3 go together to do this that He is with them, it has His approval!
And lets face it it doesn’t take 2 or 3 to be gathered in order to get Jesus into the midst, He’s everywhere and it is clear in scripture that when alone we can and ought to have intimate times with Jesus!
And in agreement with Dave wiggins, some of the meetings and prayer times i’ve been at where only 2 or 3 are there are absolutely Christ saturated, and I would gladly enjoy smaller groups if Jesus continued to draw so close!
yeah there were times in cell where you got there and there was only maybe 5 or 6 turned up and you thuought it wouldnt be that good but it was prob some of the best nights, definately agree, numbers isnt everything.
